More Lot Prep

Yesterday was the beginning of our lot prep. Today, it went full bore! Our excavator came and benched the hillside out, took some dirt from the hillside and used it to level out the front side of the lot to be even with the top of the basement. As of now, we are ready for dig day! We finally have our 911 address established too, so we can get moving on the utility taps.

Here, you can see how much wider and level our "front yard" is, so to speak. He also leveled off and compacted down the driveway. You can also see where he took dirt from the hillside. It's impressive how much dirt he was able to get, given how it looks as if he barely scraped the topsoil off.

Here, you can see where the dirt has been compacted down as well.

With the photo below, you can see where the end of the gravel is, our driveway will more or less end there too.

Where my car is parked is where he benched the hillside. This way, we can get a car behind the house if we ever need to, and creates a flat space around that side of the house.

One small area of wetness, with water seeping from the soil on the hillside in these 2 places. We are going to be putting in a retaining wall with a drain anyways, this way we can direct moisture away from the house and into the creek.

The orange stakes mark the general dimensions of where the house is sitting.

The pictures below really give you a sense of how much slope there really was on this lot, even though it looked mighty flat on the bottom. On the high side, our field manager used a laser to measure 2 feet above the orange stakes, which is where the top of the basement/main floor level sits. From there, he shot straight across and marked the level on a tree, which ends up being about 5 feet or so above ground on the lower side of the lot.

More to come next week, when our dig day is finally here!!! It's wonderful seeing all of this start to take form!
